Historical Context
This elegant and unique court sword represents the material culture of the Brazilian imperial court at its most refined. The Second Empire, particularly during the long reign of Pedro II, cultivated a sophisticated court culture that blended European aristocratic traditions with distinctly Brazilian elements.
Court swords of this type were worn by military officers, government officials, and members of the nobility during formal occasions at the Imperial Palace in Rio de Janeiro. The design follows European patterns but incorporates Brazilian imperial symbols in the decoration of the hilt and guard.

Helmet of the same metal, with a fleur-de-lis in a laurel wreath on the top, flanked by branches of coffee and tobacco. Handle in wood covered in squalor leather with metal filigree. Curved blade with two gutters running along its entire length, with engraved planters and weapon trophies on the upper part. Sheath in gilded metal with relieved decoration of plant motifs, two clamps and two hanging rings. Some flaws and signs of use. Dim. approx. total: 92 cm.; Dec. approx. blade: 87 cm.
